You can tell it’s spring in Willcox, and it has little to do with the sun shining bright and warm against blue skies interrupted by an occasional cloud dancing above the Chiricahuas.

It’s all about the vino at this end of Southern Arizona wine country this weekend.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 21, and Sunday, May 22, winemakers and wine drinkers will join hands to celebrate the vine and its splendid fruits at the annual spring Willcox Wine Festival. And we have come up with four reasons that it’s worth the hour-long drive from Tucson. In no particular order:

  • All that wine: 70 different varieties, from whites and reds to rosΓ©s.
  • All in one place: Covered booths will be set up along historic Railroad Avenue downtown. And if that isn’t enough, cross the street where you’ll find nearly a dozen tasting rooms that will be hopping throughout the weekend.
  • All those wineries: There are 18 set to participate and pour.
  • All in the family: This is an all-ages event, but only folks 21 and older can taste the vino.
