Arizona Friends of Chamber Music is giving chamber music lovers two reasons to make their way to Leo Rich Theatre this week:
On Sunday, the Friends opens its Piano & Friends Matinee Series with violinist Hye Jin Kim with pianist Ieva Jokubaviciuteο»Ώ. On their own, these two musicians have garnered high praise from music critics and audiences around the world. Jaime Laredo, violinist with the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, said Kim βhas the most pure and beautiful sound that I have heard on a violin.β The New York Times said Jokubaviciute βknows that she is an artist of commanding technique, refined temperament and persuasive insight.β
ο»ΏImagine how wonderful it will be when they combine their powerful talents in a program that includes Debussyβs Violin Sonata in G minor, Elgarβs Violin Sonata in E minor and Brittenβs Suite for Violin and Piano. The concert begins at 3 p.m. Sunday.
On Wednesday, the Vienna Piano Trio makes it Arizona Friends debut in a program that includes two rare Schubert works: His Sonata Movement in B-flat major which he composed in 1812 when he was 15 and Adagio βNotturnoβ in E-flat major (also known as the βNight Pieceβ) composed in 1828, the year Schubert died.
The trio also will perform works by Russians Rachmaninoff (Trio Γ©lΓ©giaque No.1 in G minor) and Tchaikovsky (Piano Trio in A minor).ο»Ώ
Both performances will be at Leo Rich, 260 S. Church Ave. Tickets are $30 adults, $10 students at the door or in advance at arizonachambermusic.org Details: Call 577-3769.
Kim will present a master class at 3 p.m. Saturday at Leo Rich. There is no charge and the class is open to the public.
