There’s more to the long Thanksgiving Day weekend than shopping and eating. Here are five things to do that don’t include going to the mall or reheating turkey.

1 Support the Wildcats

The University of Arizona football team is not having a good year, but they need our love Friday, Nov. 25, when they face their fierce in-state rival the Arizona State University Sun Devils. It’s the annual Duel in the Desert. More than bragging rights are on the line: the Territorial Cup, college football’s oldest trophy, is up for grabs. We’ve been on the losing end of the scoreboard in this game all but two times since 2010, including last year’s 52-37 drubbing. Let’s pack Arizona Stadium and root on the team in its final game of the season. It starts at 7:30 p.m. Get tickets, starting at $10, at arizonawildcats.com

2 Take the kids to the symphony

They will love this one, a live performance of the “Home Alone” soundtrack performed by the orchestra while the movie is playing. What a great way to introduce kids to the live symphony experience — by taking them to the movies. Tickets start at $20 for adults, $10 for kids and students at tucsonsymphony.org. There are two performances: 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, at Tucson Music Hall, 260 S. Church Ave.

3 Get in the holiday spirit

Lightwire Theater brings its “A Very Electric Christmas” show to Fox Tucson Theatre, 17 W. Congress St., at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25. The show takes us on a journey as a young bird named Max is thrown off course when his family flies south for the winter. He ends up at the North Pole just as Santa’s helpers are putting the final touches on presents. Hear holiday classics from “White Christmas” to the “Godfather Theme.” Not sure how that fits the holiday mood, but we’ll see. Tickets are $17 to $32 through foxtucsontheatre.ticketforce.com, $2 more day of show.

4 Celebrate Tucson musicians

Some of biggest names in Tucson’s music scene are teaming up to recreate The Band’s final concert “The Last Waltz” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26 at Fox Tucson Theatre, 17 W. Congress St. Tom Privett, Eric Mellen, Fred Hayes, Duncan Stitt, Steve Grams, Randy Lopez, Gary Love Horns, Tom Walbank, Kevin Pakulis, Danny Krieger, Bruce Halper, John Coinman, Carlos Arzate, Bobby Ronstadt, Gabriel Sullivan, Katie Haverly and the Aviary, Richard Sumberg, George Howard and his band, Larry and Kathy Armstrong, members of Run Boy Run, John, Jean and Bill Ronstadt and surprise guests will perform all the songs The Band did 40 years ago. Tickets are $15, $30 for VIP at foxtucsontheatre.ticketforce.com, and proceeds benefit the Tucson Musician’s Museum, the Southern Arizona Artist and Musician’s Healthcare Alliance and the Fox Tucson Theatre Foundation.

5 Meet the Tucson Roadrunners

Tucson Roadrunners captain Craig Cunningham collapsed before the puck dropped Saturday and several games were postponed. The new professional hockey team is expected to be in action this weekend when it faces off against the Stockton Heat at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, and 4:05 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, at Tucson Arena, 260 S. Church Ave. Tickets start at $11 at ticketmaster.com
