Back in December, Tucson Symphony Orchestra flutist Alexander Lipay was quietly entertaining the thought of winning a Grammy.

He had been up for the award three times in years past, all of them for sound engineering. He also was up for the Grammy last year as part of True Concord Voices & Orchestra. But the trophy always seemed to elude him.

Until Sunday.

Lipay and his father, Seattle Symphony Orchestra producer and recording engineer Dmitriy Lipay, took home the trophy for Best Surround Sound Album for work with the Seattle Symphony on its recording,Β

"Dutilleux: Sur Le MΓͺme Accord; Les Citations; MystΓ¨re De L'instant & Timbres, Espace, Mouvement."

The classical music Grammys were presented before Sunday's nationally-broadcast show from Los Angeles.

You can see Lipay next with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, which performs at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Tucson Music Hall, 260 S. Church Ave.Β
