The Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra is bringing out its chorus this weekend for a concert that visits China, Vienna and the U.S.
In three performances beginning Friday, April 1, the fledgling choir, which debuted in the 2013-14 season finale, will be front and center for Viennese composer Bruckner’s setting of the hymn “Te Deum.” The choir has another starring role in American composer Eric Whitacre’s lullaby “Goodnight Moon.”
Featured soloists are soprano Christi Amonson, mezzo-soprano Kristin Dauphinais, tenor Alejandro Salvia and baritone Andrew Stuckey.
The program adds powerful Chinese accents with He Zhanhao’s guzheng concerto “Eternal Regret of Lin’An,” featuring guzheng soloist Larry Leung. The concert closes with young Tucson violinist Tiffany Chang performing the first movement of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto as her prize for winning the 2015-16 Dorothy Vanek Youth Concerto Competition.
SASO,under the baton of music director Linus Lerner, will perform the concert three times this weekend:
