The folks in the music department of Dove of Peace Lutheran Church are pretty devoted.
While some of their classical music brethren sleep off that last gallon of eggnog or their New Year’s Eve revelry, Dove of Peace is gathering some of the area’s most-talented musicians to help it launch its 13th season of free classical music concerts.
On Sunday, Jan. 1, Eric Holtan, curator and artistic director of the concert series, will lead a group of musicians moonlighting from the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and Holtan’s professional True Concord Voices & Orchestra in a little night music for the afternoon.
The group will perform an all-Mozart program anchored by Mozart’s “Eine kleine Nachtmusik.” One of the highlights will be TSO horn player Johanna Lundy performing the Horn Quintet in E-flat.
The concert, which begins at 2 p.m., opens with Divertimento in D major for String Quartet.
Admission to the concert at Dove of Peace — 665 W. Roller Coaster Road, west of North Oracle Road — and proceeds from freewill donations will benefit Interfaith Community Services. Details: doveofpeacetucson.org
Dove of Peace hosts monthly concerts through April, selecting a different Tucson nonprofit as the beneficiary. The series is sponsored by church members as a gift to the community.
