Tucson Symphony Orchestra started selling single tickets for its 2016-17 season last week and until' month's end you can get 10 percent off.

That's 10 percent off every concert of the season, including the family holiday specials "Home Alone in Concert," "Messiah" and "Magic of Christmas."

Newly inaugurated Music DirectorΒ JosΓ© Luis Gomez will lead the orchestra in the season opener Sept. 23 and 25 that includes Gershwin's "An American in Paris" and "Cuban Overture," as well as Ravel’s Piano Concerto and the TSO premiere of Villa-Lobos' "ChΓ΄ros" No. 6. Gomez, who will take over the music director job fully in the 2017-18 season, returns for three more concerts this season: A special performance with the famed Romero Guitar Quartet on March 9, 2017; a MasterWorks concert of works by Schubert, Mozart and Strauss;Β and the season finale "An Alpine Symphony" on April 7 and 9, anchored by the TSO premiere of Richard Strauss's Alpine Symphony.

The TSO this season will perform 16 works it has never in its nearly 90 years performed including three on Gomez's MasterWorks concerts next April including Haydn's Overture in D major and Mozart's 33rd Symphony. On March 4 and 5, the orchestra will perform the world premiere of a work it commissioned from San Francisco composer Gabriella Smith.

Other season highlights include:

β€’Β An all-Beethoven program (Symphonies No. 1 and 3, along with the "Coriolan" Overture) Dec. 2 and 4.

β€’ An evening of contemporary country music with "Country Legends" on the SuperPops series Feb. 11 and 12.

β€’Β The introduction of rising young pianist Conrad Tao Feb. 17 and 19 performing Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue."

β€’Β "Cirque Musica β€” Crescendo" on the SuperPops series March 11 and 12.
