Tucson Symphony Orchestra is postponing the announcement of conductor designate José Luis Gomez's inaugural season until Friday after Gomez's flight from Europe was canceled due to mechanical issues, TSO officials said.

The orchestra and Gomez were to announce the 2017-18 season — the first under Gomez's leadership — on Tuesday before an invitation-only audience of some 400 ticket subscribers and donors. That meeting now is planned for Friday.

Gomez is returning to Tucson for the first time since November to conduct this weekend's MasterWorks concerts, making his debut with the orchestra's chamber music series. He opened the orchestra's season in September and is scheduled to lead three more concerts including the season finale in April.
