Former Tucson Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Steven Moeckel was given tenure with the Phoenix Sympony, giving him a permanent place on the orchestra.

Moeckel has been the Phoenix concertmaster since July 2008 when he was tapped after the orchestra's year-long search.

He was among four Phoenix Symphony musicians to recently earn tenure, according to a news release from the orchestra.

Moeckel made his solo debut with the orchestra last February, performing Pablo de Sarasate’s  Fantasy on Bizet's "Carmen." He is on the orchestra's 2010-11 season lineup to perform Mozart's "Haffner" Serenade for Strings next March 24-26. Click here For more information.

Moeckel still sneaks into Tucson for recitals including last summer's breathtaking three-day survey of Beethoven's complete violin sonatas with the St. Andrew's Bach Society.
