Arizona Opera finishes its run of an innovative new staging of Gounod's "Faust" at Tucson Music Hall today.
Director Bernard Uzan sets the classic tale of man trading his soul to the devil in exchange for eternal youth and all its riches in modern day. It's brilliantly dark and wonderfully relatable, with break dancing, an appearance by a Lady Gaga look-alike and several frat-boy moments in a night club setting.
And it's wonderfully performed, not only by the superb Arizona Opera Orchestra and amazing chorus, but by the devil himself, sung with inspiration by the bass-baritone Greer Grimsley.
"Faust" starts at 2 p.m. at Tucson Music Hall, 260 S. Church Ave. Click here for ticket info.
