In addition to the True Concord-related Grammy nominations, Stephen Paulus is also up for Best Classical Compendium.

Minnesota composer Stephen Paulus had pretty deep Tucson ties that went beyond his tenure as the Tucson Symphony Orchestra’s composer in residence in the late 1990s.

He composed the moving Concerto in the American Style for the TSO and penned the 9/11 memorial piece β€œPrayers and Remembrances” for the Tucson Chamber Artists on the 10th anniversary of the attacks.

When he died on Oct. 19 β€” four months after suffering a devastating stroke in July β€” Tucson’s music community felt as if it had lost one of its own.

This weekend, the TSO will remember Paulus during its “Brahms and Prokofiev” concerts by playing the second movement of the Concerto in the American Style. Concerts are at 8 p.m. today and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Tucson Music Hall, 260 S. Church Ave. For tickets and more information, go online to tucsonsymphony.org or call 882-8585.

The TCA will perform an earlier Paulus work, 1978’s β€œA Savior From on High,” during its Christmas Lessons & Carols by Candlelight concerts next weekend. The professional choir will perform the concert four times β€” 7 p.m. next Friday at St. Francis in the Valley Episcopal Church, 600 S. La CaΓ±ada Drive in Green Valley; 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at St. Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church, 4440 N. Campbell Ave.; 3 p.m. Dec. 14 at St. Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church; and 7:30 p.m. at Church of the Apostles, 12111 N. La Cholla Blvd.

For tickets and information, go to tucsonchamberartists.org or call 401-2651.
