QQ Sushi Train now open

QQ Sushi Train has a similar setup to its sister restaurant QQ Revolving Sushi in the Hub student housing complex near UA.

QQ Sushi Train, a sister to the seven-month-old QQ Revolving Sushi Bar in the Hub student housing near the University of Arizona, opened Friday in the Trader Joe’s Center at East Grant and North Swan roads.

The restaurant, owned by Rose Lu, operates much like QQ Revolving Sushi Bar, which she co-owns with her brother Rick Lu. Sushi in color-coded plates — different colors for different prices from $1.75 to $5.25 — arrives on a conveyer belt. You select what you want and let the rest continue on its journey.

The concept is perfect for the time-crunched lunch crowd, said manager Sophie Lin.

“You give people who are at work an option for a quick lunch for sushi,” she said. “Usually you come in and order and you have to wait for the sushi to be made. Here, once you sit down you’re going to find sushi you like.”

QQ Sushi Train took over the space at 4870 E. Grant Road that was home for years to China Star Buffet. That restaurant closed six months ago.

To celebrate its opening, QQ Sushi Train is offering 30 percent off the entire bill through the month of August. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
