A week after debuting on Billboard's Traditional Classical Album charts, True Concord Voice & Orchestra's "Far In the Heavens — Choral Music of Stephen Paulus" jumped to No. 5, climbing eight spots.
The CD, released Sept. 11, sits behind Max Richter's "From Sleep" and and just head of Annie Akiko Meyers's "Serenade: The Love Album" recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra.
Not bad company!
"Far In the Heavens," released on the same day the Tucson ensemble made its debut at New York City's Lincoln Center, includes Paulus's "Prayers and Remembrances," a piece True Concord commissioned from the Minnesota composer.
Paulus died in October, 18 months after suffering a devastating stroke. One of his final big projects was working with True Concord and its conductor Eric Holtan on the CD at Catalina Foothills High School.
True Concord opens its 2015-16 season this weekend with "Fanfare!" including John Rutter’s exuberant "Gloria" in celebration of the composer's 70th birthday. Performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday, October 2, at Valley Presbyterian Church, Green Valley; 7:30 p.m. Saturday, October 3 at St. Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church; and 3 p.m. Sunday, October 4 at Catalina United Methodist Church.
