Just over a year after opening on the south side, the organic/vegan-inclined Mexico In Season restaurant has launched a Kickstarter campaign to keep afloat.
Owner Diana Teran lost her principal partner last fall and has fallen two months behind in her lease, said her sister Priscella Teran, who helps manage the restaurant's social media and works in the dining room.
"The business has been really good, but without a business partner, we can't pay the rent and the electric bill," Teran said.
Mexico In Season, 3820 S. Palo Verde Road at South Ajo Way, specializes in organic and mostly vegan Mexican food. In recent months, they've added catering services and delivery to nearby businesses, Teran said.
Teran said her sister is seeking $25,000 in the campaign to satisfy the arrears and buy a food truck. Teran said the restaurant will likely become a food truck operation unless a new business partner comes forward.
"Hopefully we are going to find a business partner. And if that happens and we meet the (Kickstarter) goal, we'll still get the food truck," she said.
As of Monday, Mexico In Season had raised $2,380 of its goal. The campaign, an all-or-nothing proposition, runs until Feb. 19. You can donate here.
The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
