Itβs not often in the hectic, often transient existence of professional opera that married couples can carve out time on the same stage.
But mezzo-soprano Daniela Mack will do just that when she joins her husband, tenor Alek Shrader, in a recital Tuesday, Feb. 2, at UAβs Crowder Hall, North Park Avenue and East Speedway at the Fred Fox School of Music.
It's a two-fer for Mack, who will sing the lead in Arizona Opera's "Carmen" this weekend as part of the Tucson Desert Song Festival. Tuesday's recital is part of the festival, as well.Β
The couple has been married since 2011, four years after meeting when they were members of San Francisco Operaβs Merola Opera program for young singers.
Mack said they have been fortunate throughout their relationship to appear on stage β either cast together in an opera or paired up as recital partners.
These days when they travel together, itβs as a family, with 7-month-old daughter Evangelina in tow.
Tuesdayβs recital starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and $35 here.Β
