The Chantilly Tea Room on Oracle Road in 2003.Β

The Chantilly Tea Room, which has pleased Tucsonans with its Old World sensibilities since 2002, will serve its last afternoon tea August 13.

The boutique will remain open another month, and will run specials on merchandise until it closes Sept. 12, says owner Tamara Read.

Read plans to refocus her energies on a new venture that's still centered on tea, but less focused on the restaurant aspect. She is selling the 3,000-square-foot building she helped create at 5185 N. Genematas Drive, near North Oracle Road.Β

To help with the transition, Read will begin to sell many of the rarer teas online through her website.Β

"It’s a hard decision, but I think it’s a good one for now," she said. "I really love tea, but this venue, I need to take a breath from for a little bit. It's been 13 years working six days a week, with 12 to 15 hour days ... I need to get off my feet for a bit and rethink it."
