Walk into this vintage soda shop on Safford's Main Street and take a seat at the wooden bartop that dates back to the early 1900s. Located in the former Rexall Best Drugstore, Candy's Ice Cream Company claims it has the only original working soda fountain in the Southwest. Housemade sodas and ice cream treats are the name of the game here, but they also do hot food and basic sandwiches. 428 W. Main St, Safford. facebook.com/Candys-Ice-Cream-Company

The gorgeously crispy spinach feta croissant is must, as well as the blueberry danish. But to try it you've gotta get there early. At 7 a.m., there's already a line. 1104 S. This kitschy diner on Main Street has a conquistador theme, and serves breakfast by day and Mexican food in the evenings. The steak picado breakfast hits two birds with one stone. It's got seasoned chunks of steak and peppers, with eggs on top and refried beans on the side. Mop it up with warm Mi Casa tortillas. 409 W. Main St., Safford. 928-428-7755. facebook.com/Coronado40
