An exterior fire at the Oink Cafe Friday has temporarily closed the business, authorities said.

Shortly before 6 p.m., Tucson Fire Department firefighters were dispatched to the restaurant, 7131 E. Broadway, after numerous 911 callers reported a fire, said Capt. Barrett Baker, a department spokesman.

The neighborhood is just east of North Kolb Road.

The fire was on the exterior of the building, and flames were impinging on the overhanging roof area, said Baker.

Twenty-three firefighters controlled the fire within 20 minutes. The blaze originated in the rear of the building. The business, which was empty, was closed at the time of the blaze.

Officials with the Pima County Health Department and the city's building safety code enforcement both responded to the scene.

It was not known when the restaurant would re-open for business, Baker said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. A damage estimate was not known.
