The Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association, one of the largest and most active clubs in the desert Southwest, is teaming up with Astronomy magazine and the Palominas Astronomy Club for a free star party on Saturday, Feb. 10.
The star party gets underway by noon at the east campus of Pima Community College, 8181 E. Irvington Road, near the observatories at the south end of campus.
Astronomy magazine Editor David Eicher will be attending. People with questions about their own telescopes will also find plenty of help throughout the day and evening.
Nighttime observing will start around 7 p.m. and last for several hours.
The evening sky will feature views of numerous deep-sky objects in the winter Milky Way, with such showcase objects as the Orion nebula, the Crab nebula, the Pleiades, numerous bright star clusters, planetary nebulae, and a smattering of galaxies.
The college offers astronomy courses as part of the requirements of its Associate of Science degree, or may be taken as required or elective courses to complete degrees at Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University or the University of Arizona.
Door prizes will be provided throughout the day by Farpoint/Lumicon/JMI.
