Country Thunder is partnering with Uber, the crowd-sourcing rideshare service, to provide a safe ride program for people attending the four-day country music festival that runs through Sunday.
On opening day Thursday, festival officials reported only a few alcohol-related disturbances including a couple of fans who had to be removed from the concert because they were drunk.
"I think the rain kind of put people to be early," said festival General Manager Kim Blevins.
One of those fans arrested was a Michigan man who Pinal County Sheriff's Office said had snuck into an area close to the stage after moving a handicapped fence.
Sheriff's officials said that when deputies approached Alexander Hull, he tried to hide in the crowd. Deputies said Hull then attempted to fight with deputies trying to arrest him. He was charged with disorderly conduct.
Uber drivers will be onsite nightly at the designated pickup area. Use the new rider code CT2016 for a free ride up to $20, with $5 of every ride using the code will benefit the T.J. Martell Foundation for Leukemia, Cancer and AIDS Research.
