Talk about ending with a bang: Dove of Peace Lutheran Church is turning to Mozart and Beethoven to close out its 2017-18 classical music concert series on Sunday, April 22.
True Concord Voices & Orchestra musicians will join guest pianist Stephen Carlson of Minnesota for a concert that includes Beethovenβs Six Variations for Piano and his Quintet for Piano and Winds in E-flat Major; and Mozartβs Quintet for Piano and Winds in E-flat Major, which apparently inspired Beethovenβs piece.
Carlson, a widely traveled piano soloist who teaches at Bemidji State University in Minnesota, will join True Concord oboist David Barford, clarinetist Jackie Glazier, horn player Johanna Lundy and bassoonist Benjamin Yingst. The concert begins at 2 p.m. at Dove of Peace, 665 W. Roller Coaster Road.
Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to benefit the Southeast Arizona Area Health Education Center, which serves families and works to recruit, train and retain health professionals for rural areas in Cochise, Pima and Santa Cruz counties.
Each year the Dove of Peace music programs, which include an annual jazz concert and its classical music series, raise thousands of dollars for Tucson-area nonprofits.
