For the first time in its 17 years, the Tucson Festival of Books will have a clear-bag policy for people attending author panel sessions.

Here's what to know about the new policy:

  • All areas marked orange on an interactive map the festival has posted on its website are covered by the new clear-bag policy at the March 14-15 events at the University of Arizona. The policy is similar to that enforced at UA's Centennial Hall and at UA athletics events.
  • Bags allowed at the book festival will include ones that are clear plastic or vinyl and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12.”as well as one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc bags or similar).
  • The exception to the clear bag rule is a small clutch 4.5 X6.5", about the size of your hand, subject to search. Also, “exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection."
  • Lockers will be available at three locations on campus — between the Second Street Garage and the UA’s administration building; in front of the Henry Koffler building on the UA Mall; and in the children’s area southwest of the College of Education building. A link to reserve locker space in advance is available on the festival’s website.
  • C-SPAN will give out about 7,500 free clear bags at its TFOB booth. The UA Campus Store will sell clear tote bags.

The UA Campus Store will sell these bags at the Tucson Festival of Books.
