Musicians will be performing on eight porches in a midtown Tucson neighborhood for an event that drew over 1,000 people last year.

For a few hours this Sunday, one Tucson neighborhood will open itself up to the community with the promise of good tunes and yummy eats.

The Garden District neighborhood, near Grant and Alvernon Way, is once again hosting its annual Porch Fest event, featuring 15 bands performing on eight porches while a handful of food trucks standby ready to serve the crowd.

The free event, on Sunday, Oct. 29, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., drew in more than 1,000 people last year.

Folks can stroll or roll through the mid-century neighborhood on foot, bikes, wagons and strollers, as moving vehicles stay clear of the roadways.

In addition to Mr. Nature, who will be performing on the kidsโ€™ porch, there will be a Tom Petty tribute, Irish and Celtic ballads, country grass swing, Americana, rock and more to get visitors on their feet. Bring cash to tip the musicians who are offering up their services for free.

You can find a map of the porches and more information at thegardendistrict.org. If you’re planning on attending, organizers ask that you park at the edges of the neighborhood and walk in. Bring your own blanket or chair to sit enjoy the music.

It turns out our love of music might not have been a learned behavior.
