Arizona poppies are great annual wildflowers to sow. You can learn all kinds of gardening tips from the various Tucson organizations dedicated to gardening.

Gardeners in Tucson can use all the tips they can get. Fortunately, there are many fellow plant-lovers in our community, and quite a few organizations that provide great help for anyone wanting to have a garden.

Some of these organizations have regular email newsletters which contain lots of helpful information, tell readers about local gardening classes and events, and provide a community for plant lovers.

In addition to subscribing to the Tucson Garden Guide, here are some other email newsletters you may find useful.

Pima County Master Gardeners

This newsletter lets you know all about the many helpful classes run by the Master Gardeners. Some are in person at your local library while some are available on Zoom. You also find out about other special events, activities and plant sales. I highly recommend subscribing to this newsletter.

Tucson Water

This monthly newsletter not only lets you know what’s going on in your community around water conservation, it also has great tips about irrigation and how homeowners can save water. Check out their website, too.

Mission Garden

Mission Garden has been around since 2008, and it pays homage to the centuries of agriculture in our region. The newsletter informs readers of events at the garden, which focus on teaching Tucsonans about their agricultural heritage. There is bird-watching, crop tasting and lots of other educational opportunities for gardeners. Mission Garden is also well-worth a visit.

Tucson Botanical Gardens

This newsletter includes the events, exhibits and classes at Tucson Botanical Gardens. It’s a great way to stay connected with the gardening community. Regular visitors and class attendees will benefit from a yearly membership, which gives you discounts on classes and free daily admission, among other benefits.

Community Gardens of Tucson

This newsletter contains helpful tips on food gardening along with events in the Community Gardens and news from the organization. They usually feature a particular plant. Also check out their planting guide.

Tucson Clean & Beautiful

This newsletter sends out dates of volunteer community tree plantings in Tucson along with other helpful tips. The organization also sells trees at a discount. The tree planting volunteer events are a great way to get plugged into your local tree-loving community.

Desert Laboratory on Tumamoc Hill

If you’re interested in science-based talks on a variety of natural subjects, this is a great newsletter. Talks are given by scientists and include topics such as desert ecology, agriculture in the desert, local climate and ancient crops.
