Itâs been a minute since weâve had three events fall into play on the same day, forcing us into that dreaded coin flip to see where we land.
Weâre gonna face that dilemma on Saturday, June 21; three shows we would love to see all happening at the same time.
Do we check out the German pagan-neofolk band Faun at 191 Toole that plays a bunch of instruments we canât remember ever seeing on a Tucson stage? Those include a Swedish chordophone that looks like a fat violin with accordion-like buttons, or the violin-adjacent hurdy-gurdy that uses a rosined wheel instead of a bow to summon a sound similar to a violin.
The German Celtic/pagan/neofolk band Faun is bringing its biggest North American tour to 191 Toole on Saturday, June 21.
Toss in some bagpipes, flutes, the medieval cittern (it looks like the mandolinâs great-great-granddad) and lace it with some pretty impressive vocals and that is Faun, making what we believe is its Tucson debut.
The all-ages show starts at 8:30 p.m. at 191 Toole, 191 E. Toole Ave.; $39-$49.95 through ticketmaster.com.
But we also really love to laugh, and Felipe Esparza gets us in that department. We are pretty confident that when he brings his âAt My Leisure World Tourâ to Desert Diamond Casino and starts talking about his life and family and foibles and hiccups and all the things that we totally can relate to, weâre going to be bent over from convulsive laughing.
Comedian Felipe Esparza comes to Diamond Center at Desert Diamond Casino on Saturday.
This is the second leg of the tour, and itâs coming to us four months after he released his latest Netflix special âRaging Fool.â Weâre kinda thinking he might slip in some material from that, including his bit on why dairy is more dangerous than drugs. Hey, heâs a vegetarian; we get that.
Esparza takes the stage at Desert Diamond Casinoâs Diamond Center, 1100 W. Pima Mine Road, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $55-$75 through ddcaz.com.
Then thereâs all those songs we absolutely love from country singer-songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter, whoâs bringing fellow singer-songwriter Brandy Clark along for her show at Fox Tucson Theatre, 17 W. Congress St. We never tire of hearing and seeing her sing âPassionate Kisses,â âDown at the Twist and Shoutâ and, of course, âShut Up and Kiss Me.â
Weâre thinking she also might throw in a track or two from her just-released album âPersonal History,â which is her most autobiographical recording to date.
Country singer-songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter is at Fox Tucson Theatre on Saturday.
Weâre not as familiar with Brandy Clark as a singer, but we sure know her songwriting. Sheâs the prolific composer behind such hits as Miranda Lambertâs âMamaâs Broken Heart,â The Band Perryâs âBetter Dig Two,â Kasey Musgravesâ âFollow Your Arrowâ and âBiscuitsâ and dozens of songs recorded by Ashley McBride, Reba McEntire, The Oak Ridge Boys, Toby Keith, Terri Clark, David Nail, Sheryl Crow and dozens more.
The show begins at 7 p.m. and tickets are $56-$102 through foxtucson.com.
Food Network personality Alton Brown brings his live comedy/cooking show to Centennial Hall one last time. No, really, it's his farewell tour
