The award-winning Czech-born Bennewitz Quartet from Prague will make its Tucson debut with Arizona Friends of Chamber Music on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

Russian pianist Arsentiy Kharitonov will join the quartet as part of the Friends evening series.

The Bennewitz, founded in 1998, has been a critical darling since taking top prizes in two prestigious competitions — the 2006 Osaka Chamber Music and Festa and the Prémio Paolo Borciani in Italy in 2008.

Kharitonov, also making his Tucson debut, won first prize in the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition and the Rachmaninov Competition.

The group will perform Hans Krása’s Theme with Variations for String Quartet; Janáček’s String Quartet No. 2, “Intimate Letters”; and Dvořák’s Piano Quintet in A Major.

Wednesday’s concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at Leo Rich Theater, 260 S. Church Ave. Tickets are $45 in person or streaming and $12 for students through arizonachambermusic.org.

The Bennewitz Quartet featuring violinists Jakub Fišer and Štěpán Ježek, violist Jiří Pinkas and cellist Štěpán Doležal will perform with pianist Arsentiy Kharitonov on Wednesday, Nov. 20.
