Warning: What you are about to read will induce singing, humming and a deep desire to Google John Travolta.
“You’re the one that I want (you are the one I want)/Ooh, ooh, ooh, honey/The one that I want (you are the one I want)/Ooh, ooh, ooh, honey.”
We were right, weren’t we? You’re finishing that chorus like you did back when you were in high school, and the movie was playing on the big screen.
But back then, your fellow theatergoers would have given you a death ray if you dared give into the urge to sing out loud.
Thank goodness for Fox Tucson Theatre, which loves it when we sing along to our favorite musical films.
On Saturday, June 29, the Fox, 17 W. Congress, is screening the sing-along version of the John Travolta-Olivia Newton-John musical “Grease.” The guy/gal sitting next to you will have no problem when you start jamming along to “Greased Lightnin’,” “”Summer Nights” or the impossibly bubbly “You’re the One that I Want,” even if you are a slight bit off key.
Jumping up and dancing might be a whole other issue that you’ll need to work out with your neighbors when the film gets going at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 through foxtucson.com.
If sing-alongs aren’t your thing, check out old-school hip-hop with Tip “T.I.” Harris and Chingy on Saturday at the AVA at Casino del Sol, 5655 W. Valencia Road.
T.I., aka Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., was an early pioneer of the hip-hop subgenre trap music, with stripped-down, simple rhythms driven by complex hi-hat patters played out on snare and bass drums often tuned with a long drag to create a bass frequency. But the three-time Grammy winner is more closely associated with Southern hip-hop.
The early 2000s rapper Chingy, aka Howard Earl Bailey Jr., opens the show at 8 p.m. Tickets ($35-$125) are available at casinodelsol.com.
Comedian Eric Andre is bringing his final “The Eric Andre Show Live” tour to Rialto Theatre, 318 E. Congress, on Sunday, June 30.
Andre is best known for creating, hosting and writing the Cartoon Network “Adult Swim” surreal sketch comedy series “The Eric Andre Show,” in which Andre plays a talk show host interviewing real celebrities against a cringe-worthy backdrop that includes weak audience applause, unruly and uninvited guests that interrupt interviews and silly antics including the host shaving in the middle of an interview.
Andre takes the Rialto stage at 8 p.m. Tickets are $39.50-$54.50 through rialtotheatre.com.
