200-year-old Torah

Beth Nakhai, an associate professor at the Arizona Center for Judaic Studies, unrolls a 200-year-old torah scroll in front of her students in an independent-study class on biblical Hebrew. A rabbi will do restoration work on the document.

The Arizona Center for Judaic Studies will present the lecture "Gender in Archaeology Today: The Key to Understanding Ancient Israel" by Beth Alpert Nakhai, a University of Arizona professor, 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26.Β 

The free lecture at the UA Hillel Foundation, 1245 E. Second St., will explore the roles of women in Near Eastern society.Β
