A young boy plays capoeira.

The Kids Capoeira and Brazilian Arts Camp mixes arts and sports for a unique summer camp experience.

Kids will get to play capoeira — a dance-like Afro-Brazilian martial art form — learn Brazilian dance and music, history, Portuguese language and culture during a week-long session.

Camps aim to build fitness, flexibility, strength and confidence through fun movements and games, and are good for first-timers and those who already play capoeira.

“Capoeira Mandinga Camp helps kids and teens learn a fun Afro-Brazilian martial art that helps them achieve excellence in mind, body and spirit,” said Anne Pollack, founder of the academy.

Activities are divided by age and capoeira level. There are two sessions to choose from for kids ages 6-13: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on June 6-10 or July 25-29. The cost is $175 each week.

Teens ages 13-19 can sign up for a new two-week camp: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on June 13-24, Monday through Friday. The cost is $279.

Register on or before May 7 for a $15 discount. Multichild discounts are also available.

Before-and-after camp is available from 8:30-9:30 a.m. and 3-5 p.m. for an extra fee. Camps take place at Capoeira Mandinga Tucson Academy, 605 E. Sixth Street.
