Fresco’s limoncello margarita was judged the best margarita at last week’s 12th annual World Margarita Championship.
Second place went to the Tequila Factory for its Mexican passionflower margarita and in third place was Epazote Kitchen & Cocktails for a desert rose margarita.
The 12th annual World Margarita Championship at the Hilton Tucson El Conquistador Golf & Tennis Resort was presented by the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance and Tucson Originals restaurants. More than 20 restaurants competed, and nearly $20,000 was raised to support SAACA arts education, arts therapy programs as well.
Judges were: Mark Whitaker, Tucson Weekly, Homeskillet Blog and Chow Writer; Jeff Lewis, restauranteur and jazz musician; Devon Sanner, Downtown Kitchen & Cocktails and Carriage House; Donna DiFiore, Delectables Catering; Sandra Joy Paul, Delectables Catering; and Marv Kirchler, SAACA director and Hem & Her Bridal.
The 800 people who attended aligned, sort of, with the official judges.
People’s Choice winners were: first place, Tequila Factory’s Mexican passionflower margarita; second place, Epazote Kitchen & Cocktails’ desert rose margarita; and third place, Chef Chic’s tropical creamsicle margarita.
