Earth movers just last month were turning up the topsoil next to Lin’s Grand Buffet at Tucson Marketplace on South Park Avenue to begin construction of a new Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen restaurant. The wood frame is now up and workers are pounding away to make the late October opening date.

Tucson is getting two more Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen restaurants this fall, the first one on the far east side and the second on the south side.

Construction is under way on both restaurants. Alfredo Lara, a Popeyes district manager, said the location in the Walmart Supercenter on South Houghton Road off Interstate 10 will open in mid-September. The south side restaurant, going up on South Park Avenue in the bustling Tucson Marketplace, is expected to open in late October.

That will bring to five the number of Popeyes in Tucson including one on Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.
