Jordan Confer and Lenny

Sierra Vista dog Lenny, at the Heart of the Desert Classic Dog Show in Phoenix on Feb. 6, was picked as a Select Dog at the Westminster dog show.

Sierra Vista teen Jordan Confer’s treeing Walker coonhound Lenny was picked as a Select Dog in the 139th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show’s breed competition.

Sixteen treeing Walker coonhounds competed Monday for Best of Breed. A dog named How the West Was Won took home Best of Breed and competed in Monday’s group round but did not place, according to results posted on the Westminster Kennel Club’s website.

Lenny — whose dog show name is Dry River’z Shattered Dreams — did not advance to the group round, but a Select Dog award means he will receive Grand Championship Points in the American Kennel Club.

The 3-year-old dog is currently a Grand Champion, and last year the pair received an Award of Merit in Westminster’s breed competition.

Confer traveled to New York City for the competition along with Liane Paulson and her son Shane Paulson, close family members and Sierra Vista residents.
