The wonders of winged wildlife in Southeastern Arizona will be the focus of a Tucson Meet Your Birds event on Saturday, March 3, at Sweetwater Wetlands.

The free event at the wetlands, near Prince Road and Interstate 10, runs from 7 a.m. to noon. It’s hosted by the Tucson Audubon Society and Tucson Water, operator of the wetlands.

More than 300 bird species have been seen at the 20-acre wetlands, which serves a dual purpose as a city water-treatment facility and habitat for birds and other wildlife.

β€œWe make it easy for you to get the birding β€˜bug’ β€” with binoculars to loan, expert guides pointing out the birds, and hands-on birding activities,” according to information provided by Matt Griffiths of the Audubon Society.

Wheelchair accessible paths lead to many areas of the wetlands.

The event also will feature activities for families and children as well as exhibits of live birds and reptiles brought in by wildlife rehabilitation groups.

Water experts will provide information on water conservation and wetlands operations.

Organizers have arranged for food trucks to provide refreshments for sale.

No dogs or bicycles are permitted.
