Many have heard of the mayhem created when, on Oct. 30, 1938, Orson Welles' radio show presented a dramatization of H.G. Wells' "War of the Worlds."

Some of the mayhem reached Tucson, but most was probably in New Jersey. The newsroom of the Arizona Daily Star had a flurry of calls for about half an hour. Once editors and reporters knew what was happening, they were able to reassure callers that there was no Martian invasion.

A story from the Associated Press ran in the Arizona Daily Star on Monday, Oct. 31, 1938, along with one about the confusion in the Star newsroom.
