A 56-year-old woman who was struck by a pickup truck while crossing the street Wednesday night has died, Tucson police say.
The driver, who investigators say was impaired and fled after the crash, faces multiple charges, a news release from the Tucson Police Department says.
The crash happened about 10 p.m. Jan. 3, when the 56-year-old woman was crossing North Stone Avenue in an unmarked crosswalk at East Jacinto Street, the release said.
The woman was struck by a 2006 Ford F-150 that was northbound on Stone, the release said. The truck's lights were not turned on at the time of the crash, witnesses told police.
The driver fled after the crash.
Police later stopped the driver of a truck near North Oracle Road and West Prince Road.
Juan Eduardo Basurto-Gaspar, 39, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated DUI, aggravated assault and leaving the scene of a serious accident, the release said. He was booked into jail but has been released on bond, police said.
Police say they found drugs and paraphernalia on the woman who was was struck. She died Saturday. Her name has not been released by police.
The case remains under investigation.
Tucson police have already investigated three fatal pedestrian crashes this years, the department said.
