Tucson police arrest suspect in June 2023 shooting death

Tucson police have arrested a suspect in a June 2023 homicide.

Homicide detectives arrested Jose Ruben Jaramillo, 46, in connection with the killing of Rahsaan Avant.

Avant was found with fatal gunshot wounds at about 1 a.m. June 5 on West Alto Place near North 14th Avenue and West Speedway.

Police were issued a warrant on Dec. 15 for Jaramillo’s arrest.

Working in conjunction with the Operations Division West and the Community Response Team, and with a Tucson Police Department K9, authorities found Jaramillo on Jan. 1 near the area of North Oracle Road and West Grant Road, police said in a news release Saturday.

Jaramillo is being held on a $500,000 bond.

Police ask that anyone with information about the homicide call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME. Callers can remain anonymous.
