An Arizona State University student from China faces deportation to his home country for taking videos and photographs of women in bathroom stalls on the university's Tempe campus.

A federal judge ruled that 22-year-old Xiaoyuan Zhang no longer has a legal basis to be in the United States, Yasmeen Pitts O'Keefe, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman, told KTVK-TV.

Zhang pleaded guilty in January to voyeurism charges after being arrested last September, court records indicate.

After Zhang's arrest he was taken to a police station, was interviewed by an officer who speaks Mandarin and consented to a search of his cellphone, police said.

Officers found photos or videos of six women, according to police.

Zhang is being held at an ICE facility pending deportation.
