Border Patrol agents found this ordnance east of Douglas and Cochise County Sheriff's personnel detonated it May 4, 2017 at the Douglas Municipal Airport, authorities said.

Cochise County Sheriff's personnel detonated an ordnance Thursday that was found east of Douglas by Border Patrol agents.

The ordnance was found Wednesday off of Geronimo Trail, said Carol Capas, a sheriff's spokeswoman.

A bomb technician safely transported the ordnance to the Douglas Municipal Airport where it was detonated without incident, Capas said.

Capas reminded the public that if anyone finds suspicious artillery they should not pick it up. She said a report should be made to a law enforcement agency immediately.
