Rain is falling steadily throughout Tucson today, with snow on the Mountains and the occasional brief flurry of "snow pellets" in town.

Catalina Highway to Mount Lemmon was closed early this morning by the Sheriff's Department, and snow was visible on the mountaintops most of the day. TheΒ National Weather Service in Tucson said that several inches of snow are possibly at elevations above 5,000 feet.

Brief downpours, small hail and sleet- or snow pellets- were reported throughout the day in the Tucson Metro area. Temperatures tonight are expected to dip into the low 30s.
