Pima Animal Care Center

Both towns decided not to renew agreements with the Pima Animal Care Center.

The towns of Marana and Sahuarita are now providing animal care services to their residents.

A decision by the towns to break ties with Pima Animal Care Center will have residents there calling new numbers to report stray animals, arrange to surrender animals and report noise concerns. The new services went into effect Saturday, July 1.

In all, the newly created Marana Animal Services and Sahuarita Animal Services Division will handle the following animal care services for residents of the towns:

  • Animal bites.
  • Animal welfare concerns.
  • Noise and animal waste complaints.
  • Reports of stray pets within the town limits.
  • Owner surrenders.
  • Rabid animals.
  • New dog licenses and renewals.

In the last few months, both towns opted against renewing intergovernmental agreements with PACC, with both citing concerns over service levels and cost.

PACC will still accept strays and owner surrenders of pets, but the county Board of Supervisors will decide later this month how much to charge those living in Sahuarita and Marana for dropping off those animals.

Pima County does not charge a fee to those living in cities with ties to PACC, including Tucson, South Tucson and Oro Valley as well as unincorporated areas of the county.

For animal control related issues, residents of Marana should call the town’s Animal Services at 382-8020.

Residents of Sahuarita should call the town’s Animal Services Division at 445-7877.
