Tuesday's high temperature of 104 degrees tied Tucson's record for Sept. 26 set in 1899, the National Weather Service says.

And although the calendar says it's autumn, triple-digit heat stuck around another day.

The high on Wednesday hit 103 at 3:20 p.m. to break the record high for a Sept. 27 of 102 set in 1994.

Tucson's official weather records go back to 1895.

But a cooling trend for the rest of the week is predicted to drop Tucson's high down to a balmy 89 on Sunday. (Been such a long summer, we looked up the Webster's definition of balmy just to be reminded: pleasantly warm. Yeah, that works, by Tucson standards.)

That will put our temps back to around normal, continuing into early next week, the weather service says.

The forecast calls for highs of 90 Monday and 88 Tuesday.

"It will finally start to feel a bit more like Fall around here," the weather service says on its website.
