A 27-year-old Tucson man pleaded guilty this week to threatening to commit a mass shooting at the University of Arizona.

Michael Lee was charged with making interstate threats. He faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 when he is sentenced July 3 by U.S. District Judge Rosemary Mรกrquez, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Arizona said in a news release.

In October 2023, Lee made threats to commit a mass shooting at the UA in a group chat on Snapchat, the release said. Lee who was not a UA student expressed a desire to get revenge on โ€œall the chads and stacies!!,โ€ terms used as part of incel ideology.

Incels are self-described involuntary celibates.

Students reported the threats to UA police and the FBI, the release said.
