Families in need were served a Thanksgiving Day meal Monday at the downtown Armory Park Center.

It was one of three large Thanksgiving-meal events planned this week.

Homeless individuals were among those who attended the holiday feast β€” the Community Thanksgiving Meal & Promotora Program β€” hosted by Portable Practical Educational Preparation and the Promotoras, also known as Community Health Advisors. Organizers planned to serve about 1,500.

A resource fair also was available with contact and information about 20 social services agencies and nonprofits that offer aid.

Gospel Rescue Mission

On Wednesday, the 28th Annual Thanksgiving Street Banquet is being hosted by the Gospel Rescue Mission.

The event is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 338 W. 28th St., between South 10th and Ninth avenues.

Organizers served about 3,000 people last year on the closed-off street.

Entertainment will be offered, along with free hygiene items, clothing, socks and other services.

Salvation Army

On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, the 32nd Annual Salvation Army Community Thanksgiving Dinner is expected to serve some 2,000 meals, organizers said.

It will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church at 1145 E. Fort Lowell Road.
