Sahuarita parents can now upload their kidsβ health documents online instead of going through the trouble of printing them out and delivering them to the school.
Sahuarita Unified School District has been working with Caredox, a new web database that collects studentsβ annual health documents for the past year, and officials are saying it has saved the district a lot of time and paperwork.
βThis is very similar to what doctors are using in their offices and thirty percent of parents in the district like and use it efficiently,β said Jeanine Sarnacki, a nurse in the district.
Caredox securely saves medical records in its system and notifies parents when they need to update their childβs information such as vaccinations, medical conditions, and any updated medical attention, she said.
If a parentsβ child is missing a vaccine needed to attend school, they will be notified through Caredox via email or by downloading the app.
The system also asks parents of newly enrolled students whether or not they have any emotional issues the district should be aware of so that the district can identify those students early and help them.
Sarnacki said about 30 percent of Sahuaritaβs parents are using Caredox. Some parents still prefer to deliver paper documents by hand, because they are worried the system has too much information about their children online.
Kindergarten, third-, sixth-, and ninth-graders still have paper documents sent home but eventually, the district would like to go completely online eventually.
βWe will still have paper documents for parents who want it but this is the fastest, easiest, and most efficient way for all of us in the district,β Sarnacki said.
Jessica Grimm, a Sahuarita district parent, has two children in the district on different campuses and with the help of Caredox, she loves that it keeps her in the loop about what is happening at each school.
βSometimes your kid doesnβt always tell you everything and when they go to the nurse, Iβll get a notification about it either through email or the app,β Grimm said.
