Officials closed Interstate 10 from U.S. 191 to Lordsburg on April 25 because of blowing dust.

Both directions of a 62-mile stretch of Interstate 10 east of Tucson have reopened following an hours-long closure because of blowing dust and poor visibility, ADOT officials said.

I-10 in both directions was shut down Monday afternoon from U.S. 191 in Southeast Arizona to Lordsburg, New Mexico. Both directions of travel were opened by 7:15 p.m.

If caught in a dust storm motorists should:

  • Pull completely off the road; do not stop in a travel lane or the emergency lane.
  • Turn off all vehicle lights, including emergency flashers.
  • Set your emergency brake and take your foot off the brake so your brake lights are not on.
  • Stay in your vehicle, with your seat belt buckled while waiting for the dust to subside.
