The Childrenโ€™s Museum Tucson downtown plans to expand and add a science garden.

Childrenโ€™s Museum Tucson, Oro Valley: Childrenโ€™s Museum Tucson, Oro Valley has received a $200,000 Challenge Grant from the Connie Hillman Family Foundation, augmenting $400,000 in donations raised by the museum, to help renovate the organizationโ€™s new building at 130 S. Scott Ave.

The Challenge Grant matched a yearlong fundraising effort by the museum to help kickstart a multiyear, $15 million capital campaign to expand the museum. Renovations on the Scott Avenue building are expected to be completed this year. The museum will relocate its administrative offices and expand its program and event space, according to a news release.

Space in the existing museum building will then be renovated to become 6,000 square feet of new exhibits, plus a new entrance, gift shop and cafรฉ. Existing exhibit space will be updated throughout the museum. An outdoor science garden is also planned.

National Meat-Cutting Challenge: A Marana butcher, Julio Arnold, made it to the regional competition of the National Meat Cutting Challenge last month. He went up against two dozen of the nationโ€™s top butchers who were vying to advance to the final round for a chance at a $25,000 grand prize. Each participant received 30 to 40 pounds of beef consisting of one sirloin, one filet and one ribeye cut. The contestants were judged on quality, yield and speed in the timed cut-off. Arnold was not one of the five to advance to the final round.
