A 22-year-old man wanted in connection to a shooting of a teen in December was arrested on a felony warrant in Las Vegas by federal marshals.
Ivan Alcala was taken into custody March 9 on charges of aggravated assault with a weapon causing serious injury, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and kidnapping, according to a Tucson Police Department Facebook post Tuesday. Alcala is pending extradition to Tucson.
The charges stem from a Dec. 12, 2016 shooting in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant at 4450 N. First Avenue, police said. Shortly before 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting and found a 16-year-old boy with gunshot wounds.
Tucson Fire Department paramedics treated and took the teen to Banner-University Medical Center Tucson with serious injuries.
Detectives determined that the teen was a passenger in a vehicle that was driven by a friend to the restaurant where they were to meet with acquaintances in the parking lot.
The teen remained in the vehicle while his friend went to talk to a man in another vehicle. A fight broke out between the two men, and another man approached the teen and shot him, police said.
The teen's friend ran across the street to escape and shots also were fired at him, police said. He was not struck, but was injured from the fight.
The suspects fled in an SUV, and detectives continued working the case obtaining felony arrest warrants for Alcala, and Jose Luis Gonzalez Ceron, 23, who remains at large.
Ceron is also facing aggravated assault with a weapon causing serious injury, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and kidnapping. He is considered armed and dangerous, and has ties to Tucson and Douglas, investigators said.
A 2003 Dodge Durango bearing Arizona license plate BYD4703 has been identified as a suspect vehicle. Detectives ask that anyone with information about the vehicle or Ceron's whereabouts call 911 or 88-CRIME, the anonymous tipster hotline. Β Β
