A man was jailed on suspicion of second degree murder in connection with a crash early Saturday on Tucson's east side that killed a motorcyclist, police said.

Manley Gilliland, 59, was riding a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle east on East 22nd Street near South Wilmot Road about 1 a.m. when he was rear-ended, Tucson police said in a news release Sunday.

Gilliland, who lacked a valid driver's license and was not wearing a helmet, died at St. Joseph's Hospital, the release said.

The driver of the 2014 Ford Focus that rear-ended Gilliland, Jonathan Elocadio Cardenas, 29, was booked into the Pima County jail on suspicion of second degree murder charge, the release said. Investigators also determined Cardenas was impaired. Bond was set at $250,000.

The investigation into this incident continues.
