A 13-year-old boy nearly drowned Sunday afternoon at a neighborhood pool on Tucson's north side.Β

The boy's father pulled him from the pool on the 4200 block of North Flowing Wells Road and restarted the boy's heartbeat by using CPR, the Northwest Fire District said in a news release. The father's efforts were "crucial to the lifesaving efforts."Β

The fire district said the boy was swimming with his family and the parents saw him jump into the pool a few minutes before he was found floating in the water.Β

Paramedics took the boy to a hospital, where he was in critical condition as of 11 p.m. Sunday. The Pima County Sheriff's Department also responded to the incident and is investigating.Β

This was the second near-drowning the Northwest Fire District has responded to in less than a week.

A 16-month old boy nearly died July 12 after being found in an above-ground pool on the 5700 block of West Cortaro Crossing Drive. The boy's parents revived the boy by using CPR, the fire district said.Β
