Joe Olivas holding a Ben’s Bell honoring his work as principal at Roskruge Bilingual K-8, with the school’s staff.

What: Ben’s Bells promotes kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is β€œbelled.”

Last week’s recipient: Jose Olivas, principal at Roskruge Bilingual K-8.

Nominated by: Eric Flewelling.

Why: For being largely responsible for turning Roskruge around. During his time as principal, Roskruge has raised test scores and has earned many accolades, Flewelling wrote in his nomination letter. Olivas has done that by focusing on building caring relationships. β€œHe leads by example,” the letter states. β€œJose is humble, endlessly kind and a role model in so many ways.”
